A NEWSTAR Alternative for Homebuilders: One Platform, One Record

ThreadKore is a NEWSTAR alternative for homebuilders who want sales, selections, estimating, purchasing, construction, native accounting and customer experience on one web-based platform and one shared record, with Orbit AI working across it. Constellation HomeBuilder Systems offers several ERP and construction systems (NX, NEWSTAR, FAST, BuildTopia and Builder360) alongside separately named products for design, homeowner care, surveys, listings, land development and trades, many of which joined Constellation through acquisitions.

One platform vs. a portfolio of systems

Constellation HomeBuilder Systems is a division of Constellation Software (TSX:CSU) and says its software is available “as standalone or integrated systems.”[1] It describes NX and NEWSTAR as “complete, single-system ERPs built for the full homebuilding lifecycle, accounting included,” and BuildTopia as a system that “connects to the accounting system you already use.”[2] Constellation’s own timeline and press releases show how the portfolio was assembled:

  • NEWSTAR, FAST and CFT: Constellation’s timeline says it acquired NEWSTAR, FAST and CFT in 2004 to form Constellation HomeBuilder Systems.[1]
  • NX: an ERP that Constellation unveiled in February 2025 as its next-generation platform, alongside NEWSTAR, BuildTopia, FAST and other solutions.[3][4]
  • BuildTopia: web-based construction management for production builders that integrates with QuickBooks, Acumatica, Sage Intacct and Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central. Constellation acquired BuildTopia’s assets in June 2010.[5][6][7][31][32]
  • Sales1440: homebuilder sales software, part of Constellation’s acquisition of Builder1440 announced in January 2010.[8][9]
  • Builder360: construction management and accounting software; the timeline says Builder360 joined Constellation in 2006.[1][10]
  • Homeowner Central (by CONASYS): homeowner and builder portals. Constellation Software’s Perseus Group lists CONASYS as acquired in 2014.[11][12]
  • CustomerInsight: homeowner surveys, acquired June 2018; and Woodland, O’Brien & Scott customer-satisfaction consulting, acquired August 2016.[13][14][15]
  • NewHomeListingService.com (NHLS): new home listings and leads, acquired March 2019.[16][17]
  • LandDev: land development software, acquired May 2020.[18][19]
  • Also from Constellation: Design Studio Manager, SalesXpress, Scribble eSignature, BidManager, TouchPoint and TradeTopia for trades, the BuilderGo field app, BuilderMetrix benchmarking and the Stella AI agent.[20][21][22][23][24][25][26][27][33]

Constellation connects these products to its ERPs. It says BuilderGo runs on NEWSTAR, NX and BuildTopia “through our integration hub Constellation Central,” and that Homeowner Central and CustomerInsight can run standalone or integrated with NX, NEWSTAR, BuildTopia and FAST.[11][13][24] NX itself was “built from the ground up” as an all-in-one ERP, and the comparison below treats it that way.[3]

ThreadKore was built differently: one platform, not a family of systems to choose among and connect. BuildingBlocks, MyPM, theHOMESapp, Purchasing, AP Launch, ARLaunch, JobCloser and Orbit are parts of one Business Operating System, and they all write to the same System of Record. Built in-house on one database and data model. When a buyer changes a selection, the price, the purchase order and the home’s margin update in one record. Nothing has to pass between separate products.

Questions worth asking any vendor: Which Constellation ERP would you run (NX, NEWSTAR, BuildTopia or FAST), and which of the separately named products would you add to it? Which of them share the ERP’s database, and which connect through Constellation Central or another integration? How many logins will each role need?

Who should consider switching, and who shouldn’t

ThreadKore is likely a fit if

  • You run a Constellation ERP plus several separately named products for design, homeowner care, surveys or trades, and want one record across the business.
  • Your CFO needs projected margin for each home, including the costs to build, hold and sell, plus a cash outlook tied to construction.
  • You want AI that works from your own operating and financial record (Orbit).
  • You want implementation, support and ongoing responsibilities defined clearly in your proposal.
  • You build production, semi-custom, custom, build-for-rent or build-on-your-lot homes.

Constellation may be the better choice if

  • NEWSTAR, NX or BuildTopia and the connected products serve you well, and switching would cost more effort than it’s worth.
  • You depend on industry benchmarking (BuilderMetrix), homeowner survey programs (CustomerInsight), new home listing distribution (NHLS), dedicated land development software (LandDev) or rental property management in NX. Review these requirements and current availability with ThreadKore before switching.
  • You build multi-family, high-rise or condominium projects, which Constellation lists for NEWSTAR.[20] ThreadKore is built for production, semi-custom, custom, build-for-rent and build-on-your-lot builders. Review your project requirements and current availability with ThreadKore.
  • You want to keep your accounting system (QuickBooks, Acumatica, Sage Intacct or Business Central) and add construction management on top (BuildTopia). ThreadKore includes native accounting rather than connecting to another ledger.
  • You need a ThreadKore capability marked “coming soon” before its planned date.

Switching from NEWSTAR or another Constellation system: what moves and how

Records to discuss in your migration scope

  • Opening balances, chart of accounts and the history you need for reporting
  • Active jobs, budgets and open commitments (POs and variant POs)
  • Communities, lots, units and addresses
  • Plans, options, packages and retail pricing
  • Vendors, vendor pricing and compliance documents
  • Customers, contracts and selections on homes under construction

Your proposal defines which migration services are included or scoped separately. Constellation describes modern APIs for NX and a data extension that pushes BuilderMetrix data to your own SQL database.[3][27] Confirm with Constellation how exports work for your ERP under your agreement.

Typical steps

  1. Understand workflows and scope. Identify your builder model, active work, priorities and process owners. Agree which teams and products go first.
  2. Plan configuration and migration. Review source systems, opening balances, active jobs, vendor records and history. Agree the mapping and who prepares and checks each record.
  3. Validate data and prepare users. Reconcile agreed balances, review sample jobs and walk through key tasks with process owners.
  4. Launch and support adoption. Agree the cutover, support contacts, escalation path and adoption reviews.

Timeline: Timing depends on scope, source data and the teams going live. Your proposal sets the responsibilities, migration services, training, timing and post-launch support.

What builders say after moving to one platform

ThreadKore customers include builders who moved from NEWSTAR.

“By bringing every major function, from sales, purchasing, construction, finance, land development, customer care, and executive reporting under one ERP platform, we’ve created a true single source of truth for our organization.”

Eric Sanford, CEO & President
Landmark 24 Homes · Savannah, GA

“ThreadKore helped us to transform from a team who had different data sets for each department to being on the same data set in real time. ThreadKore has been instrumental in tightening our cycle time, protecting our margins, and giving us the ability to scale.”

Matt Reeves, CFO
Landmark Fine Homes · Norman, OK

“Before ThreadKore, we relied on multiple disconnected systems that created inefficiencies and made it difficult to trust our data. Today, everything—from CRM and sales to scheduling, trade allocation, accounting, and warranty—is integrated into a single platform.”

Dylan Gerard, Chief Financial Officer
Manuel Builders · Lafayette, LA

“Prior to implementing ThreadKore, we were running multiple systems that never talked to each other very well. As we started expanding into new markets, we could see the wheels were going to come off trying to maintain separate databases and platforms across each one. ThreadKore brought everything into one place and gives us a much clearer picture of what is happening across the company.”

Andy Leach, Owner
Old World Custom Homes · North Canton, OH

“Since moving to ThreadKore, we've had far more visibility into our data and processes than ever before, helping us reduce cycle times, uncover efficiencies, and gain new insights.”

Frequently asked questions

What is a good NEWSTAR alternative for homebuilders?

ThreadKore is a NEWSTAR alternative for homebuilders who want one platform and one shared record for sales, selections, estimating, purchasing, construction, native accounting and customer experience, with Orbit AI working across that record. It is built for production, semi-custom, custom, build-for-rent and build-on-your-lot builders.

How is ThreadKore different from Constellation’s NEWSTAR and NX?

Constellation HomeBuilder Systems offers several ERPs, including NEWSTAR and NX, and sells separately named products for design centers, homeowner portals, surveys, listings, land development, trades and AI, which it connects to its ERPs. ThreadKore runs sales, selections, purchasing, construction and BuildingBlocks native accounting as parts of one Business Operating System on one System of Record, with Orbit AI. Competitor materials use the supplied source date of October 11, 2026; confirm current details with the vendor.

Is Constellation HomeBuilder Systems one product or several?

Several. Constellation’s timeline says it was formed in 2004 when Constellation acquired NEWSTAR, FAST and CFT. It later announced acquisitions of Builder1440 including Sales1440 and BuildTopia in 2010, Woodland, O’Brien & Scott in 2016, CustomerInsight in 2018, NewHomeListingService.com in 2019 and LandDev in 2020, and Constellation Software’s Perseus Group lists CONASYS (Homeowner Central) as acquired in 2014. NX was unveiled in 2025 as Constellation’s next-generation ERP.

We use BuildTopia. Is ThreadKore a BuildTopia alternative?

Yes, if you want accounting on the same platform. BuildTopia handles construction, sales and field work and connects to a separate accounting system such as QuickBooks, Acumatica, Sage Intacct or Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central. ThreadKore includes BuildingBlocks native accounting, so job cost, invoices and payments sit on the same record as selections and purchase orders.

Can we move our data from NEWSTAR to ThreadKore?

Yes, as part of an agreed migration scope. A typical plan covers opening balances, active jobs, vendor records, communities and lots, plans and options, and the history you need for reporting. Confirm with Constellation how exports work under your agreement. Your ThreadKore proposal defines what is migrated, who prepares and checks it, and how balances are reconciled.

How long does it take to switch from NEWSTAR to ThreadKore?

Timing depends on your scope, data and number of teams going live. Your proposal and implementation plan set the timeline, responsibilities, training and post-launch support.

Does ThreadKore include AI?

Yes. Orbit is available today. It analyzes the connected operational and financial record so teams can investigate changes, follow a variance and compare homes or communities. Orbie supports clients. APLaunch.AI, for AI-assisted invoice preparation, is coming soon. Approvals and financial decisions stay with authorized users.

Have builders switched from NEWSTAR to ThreadKore?

Yes. ThreadKore works with builders who have moved from NEWSTAR and who now run sales, purchasing, construction and accounting on one shared record.

Who should stay on NEWSTAR?

Builders who are well served by NEWSTAR, NX or BuildTopia and Constellation’s connected products may not gain enough from switching to justify the effort. That is especially true if you depend on industry benchmarking, homeowner survey programs, listing distribution, dedicated land development software or rental property management and have not confirmed these requirements and current availability with ThreadKore, or if you build multi-family, high-rise or condominium projects.

Is threadkore.com built and hosted on WebLaunchAI?

Yes. threadkore.com is built and hosted on WebLaunchAI, ThreadKore’s website design and hosting tool, available in beta.
